Sivion’s feel good music filled the room with positive vibrations and a soulful melody. The head bobs flowed with the boom bap sound that reverberated throughout the club. These walls were no stranger to these beats but this new set felt like a genuine display of his fresh vibe. Check out Sivion’s album, Spring of the Song Bird.
I was not familiar with Jabee’s music, but his raw east coast style peaked my curiosity and encouraged me to inquire about him. He is from Oklahoma City, and has an album out called, Lucky Me. This is yet another example of Poor Vida’s quality homegrown flavor.
Check out his website MyNameIsJabee.com.
Playdough the man of the hour invigorated our hearts and minds with his infectious energy and clear-cut messages. His free styles ended with, “I make sure everything remains raw, you like it raw?” Then he shifted into the song “I like it raw.” He kept his audience on their toes with mixes of classic prevalent hip hop songs while Sean P shifted us back into Playdough’s realm. David Rodriguez and Joe Skillz crafted chaos into a visual orgasm of ingenuity by portraying Playdough as the master of the mic. It symbolized a culmination of blood sweat and tears ignited by the passion in Playdough’s soul. The blowtorch used to singe the composition’s setting created a three dimensional tangible semblance while they turned sweat into fire as the energy coursed like lightening through his veins.
Playdough and Freddie Bruno from DeepSpace5 perform back and forth hip hop routine with live painting provided by David Rodriguez and Joe Skillz of ArtLoveMagic.
Playdough and his DJ Sean P, go into an impromtu compilation of raw hip hop including snippets from Ol’ Dirty Bastard, Busta Rhymes, and Tribe Called Quest. The emcee then performs his title track from his new album, Hotdoggin’
Overall I was thoroughly impressed with Poor Vida’s proficiency in instituting a new era of entertainment. I’ve been saying this for awhile; you must offer diversity to set yourself apart from every other show in town. Adding the Just Us League and ArtLoveMagic to a venue like the Green Elephant only made sense and I’m glad someone finally made the connection.
